Baltic Amber is a particular type of Amber that is mined from near the Baltic Sea.
What makes Baltic Amber significantly different from the other forms of Amber, from different parts of the world? Because there is Amber in Australia. Baltic Amber, as it is known contains high levels of a substance called succinic acid. There are many different types of Amber, just like there are different types of rocks. Each one is different depending on where they are mined. But only Baltic Amber can be used for treating pain, arthritis & teething etc.
Baltic Amber has been used in Europe for many centuries as a natural analgesic and healing agent as well as natural antibiotic. Aristocrats of the 17th Century would brew tea in special Amber containers, knowing that the Amber vessel it is brewed in would release something into the tea that would cure them of their illness.
Historically Baltic Amber is believed that when worn on the skin, body heat causes the Baltic Amber to release an oil containing trace amounts of succinic acid. So theoretically, a small amount of succinic acid is absorbed into the skin, it would trigger the body to react like you’ve taken a natural panadol, reducing pain and reducing inflammation.
Baltic Amber is said to be helpful with pain and inflammation issues. But mostly used for teething pain but also such issues as headaches, arthritis, tendonitis, and generalized pain throughout the body. It is most commonly known as “Teething Amber” due to how it is commonly used for teething babies.
We know Baltic Amber is a fossilized resin, although it is not a mineral, it is generally classified as a Gemstone. As the sap was once soft and sticky, some of the tree resin Ambers can sometimes contain insects and even small vertebrates. If you look at Green Baltic Amber, you will see that the colour green is made up of the leaves that are stuck in the sap just before it has set hard.
Baltic Amber occurs in a range of different colours from a milky white/butter colours yellow all the way to a dark red almost black.
Baltic Amber is distinguished from other Amber from all around the world by the presence within it of high levels of succinic acid, hence Baltic Amber and is different any other type of Amber that can be found.
Baltic Amber can also be known apart from other Ambers because Baltic Amber smells like pine.
